Drexel University froze all undergraduate social activities that include alcohol, effectively pausing a large portion of campus social life. The administration issued the directive Tuesday evening as it intensifies its review of conduct within student organizations. The policy applies to all undergraduate events, not just those hosted by Greek chapters.
The decision follows an interim suspension placed on the Pi Kappa Phi and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternities earlier in the week. University officials stated they are examining reports of potential hazing and sexual misconduct involving these groups. The school enrolls nearly 12,500 undergraduate students, and the new rules impact their daily schedules and social programming.
University administrators coordinated the review with the offices of Student Conduct, Civil Rights Compliance, and university police. A statement released Tuesday noted that Drexel takes the reports seriously and is conducting a thorough review. The administration emphasized that student safety is paramount and that the institution does not tolerate behavior that threatens community well-being.
The university has not released specific details about the ongoing investigations. Officials stated that all reports are carefully reviewed and that appropriate action is taken according to university policies. Students have been directed to several channels for reporting or seeking support. These include the anonymous Compliance Hotline, the Office of Civil Rights Compliance, and the Student Conduct Office.
Students can also contact Drexel University Police for emergencies at 215-895-2222 or use the Crime Tipline to report suspicious activity. Confidential counseling services are available during business hours at 215-895-1415 and after hours at 215-416-3337. Employees may access support through the Employee Assistance Program, and students can reach counseling professionals via email at counsel@drexel.edu.
