Greenville, a Mississippi Delta community of roughly 26,000 residents, experienced an industrial incident on Wednesday morning. Emergency personnel arrived at the Loveland Products plant shortly after 7 a.m. Central Standard Time to address an explosion that produced a large column of black smoke.

City officials issued a news release confirming the timeline and location of the event. The facility is located on the eastern edge of the city, approximately 120 miles northwest of the state capital, Jackson. Local records indicate the site operates in a predominantly rural sector of the municipality.

Sara Moreland Hester, deputy emergency management director for Washington County and a local firefighter, reported that no injuries were immediately identified. She noted that the fire was under control by midmorning, although it had not been fully extinguished at that time. Plant management provided preliminary data indicating the fire involved a herbicide chemical.

Nutrien, the parent company of Loveland, stated that the fire was being managed. The firm confirmed that plant leadership was coordinating directly with first responders. Loveland, headquartered in Loveland, Colorado, manufactures fertilizer, plant nutrition, and crop protection products for the agricultural sector.

The city directed residents living near the plant and in areas to the east and south to shelter in place for several hours. This precaution addressed potentially hazardous smoke. The order was lifted just before noon. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality deployed an emergency response team and an air monitoring contractor to assess any impact on local air quality.
