Seattle sends two future picks for Pro Bowl guard

Seattle fans can expect a new face on the offensive line this weekend. The Seahawks traded a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts for offensive guard Quenton Nelson. The deal was confirmed on Tuesday by ESPN's Adam Schefter. Schefter noted that Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts chose to secure draft capital before losing him in free agency.

Nelson, 30, has spent his entire career with Indianapolis. The former Notre Dame standout was selected sixth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has earned eight Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors. His first three seasons included first-team All-Pro recognition. He has appeared in all seven games for Indianapolis this season.

The acquisition strengthens the Seahawks' offensive line. The team, which won Super Bowl LX, holds a 4-3 record entering Week 8. Seattle looks to improve pass protection and the running game with Nelson's presence. The move provides the team with a proven veteran on the interior line.

Indianapolis is undergoing a period of transition. The Colts sit at 2-5 after losing three straight games. The team fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19. Interim general manager Ed Dodds currently oversees personnel decisions. The trade occurs as the organization evaluates its roster and direction ahead of the deadline.

The exchange of assets reflects the Colts' desire to maximize value from an aging star. By trading Nelson now, Indianapolis secures two future selections. The Seahawks gain immediate help on a line that supported a Super Bowl victory last year. Both teams move forward with altered rosters and different draft positions.
