A sports analytics model projects Oregon to defeat Northwestern 30-22 in Saturday’s college football game. The computer system, which simulates every FBS contest 10,000 times, lists the Ducks as the value pick against the spread in 61% of its runs. It also predicts the total points will exceed the 47.5-point line in 60% of simulations.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in recent form for both programs. Oregon enters the game with three losses on the season. The Ducks fired offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer following a 21-10 defeat to Illinois last week. The change in staff comes after what the source described as a dismal performance on offense.

Northwestern arrives in Eugene, Oregon, riding a four-game winning streak. However, the quality of those opponents draws scrutiny. The Wildcats defeated Ball State, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Penn State. Those three Big Ten opponents combined for only one win in the conference. In their only true road game against a quality team, Northwestern lost to Indiana by one touchdown.

The betting market favors the Ducks by 3.5 points. The over/under for total points is set at 47.5. The model’s recommendation aligns with the home side covering the spread. It suggests the Oregon offense, despite recent issues, will outscore the Wildcats in a moderately high-scoring affair.

This prediction is part of a larger set of Week 9 forecasts from SportsLine. The service reports a 68-59 record on its top-rated college football picks. That record has generated nearly $400 in returns at betting sites for those following its recommendations.

Other notable lines for the weekend include No. 6 Utah as a 6.5-point road favorite against Cincinnati. The Bearcats beat Texas Tech last week and seek another upset. No. 13 Texas Tech is a 3.5-point home favorite against No. 22 Arizona. No. 3 Georgia is an 11.5-point favorite over No. 17 Florida.

Ohio State is a 6.5-point favorite against USC, while Auburn is a 13-point favorite over Ole Miss. Texas is a 20.5-point favorite against Mississippi State. These games are scheduled for Saturday, October 31.

The Week 9 slate begins on Wednesday, October 28, with Kennesaw State at Middle Tennessee. Middle Tennessee is a 2.5-point favorite. Thursday features FAU at North Texas, with the Mean Green favored by 13.5 points. Friday’s card includes Baylor at UCF, where UCF is a 1.5-point favorite.
