Ken Paxton's campaign has removed its scheduled Election Day eve appearance at the Alamo from its public calendar. The change leaves the Texas Republican Senate candidate without a planned stop in San Antonio on Monday, November 2.
The campaign announced a two-week bus tour called "Come and Take It" last month. The itinerary was set to end at the Alamo, a World Heritage Site and museum in San Antonio. The site's website states that political activities are prohibited. More than 150 defenders died during the 13-day siege by the Mexican army in 1836.
Monday's updated schedule lists events in Conroe and Allen. Both cities are hundreds of miles from San Antonio. The Allen rally is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Central Time. Paxton would not have enough time to travel to the Alamo after that event.
The campaign did not respond to requests for comment regarding the schedule change. It previously offered no public explanation for the modification.
Paxton faces Democrat Talarico in the general election. Recent polling shows Talarico with a slight lead, and CBS News rates the state as a toss-up. Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1988. President Trump has campaigned heavily in the state, including a rally in San Antonio in October and events in Corpus Christi and Lubbock last week.
