A Milwaukee police sergeant shot and killed a motorist driving the wrong way on State Highway 175 on Monday night, November 2.

The incident occurred near the intersection with Lloyd Street. At 8:15 p.m., the officer observed a truck execute a U-turn and travel southbound in the northbound lanes. The sergeant radioed dispatch and attempted to reach the driver. During the stop, the suspect showed a firearm. The sergeant discharged his duty weapon, and the driver died at the scene.

Northbound traffic on the highway was closed from Martin Drive to Lisbon Avenue. Vehicles were diverted at Vliet Street. The road remained closed as of 11:30 p.m.

The involved sergeant is a 37-year-old man with more than 15 years of service. He is now on administrative leave. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will lead the inquiry, working with the West Allis Police Department.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman stated that video related to the incident will be released within 15 days per Standard Operating Procedure 575. MPD noted the sergeant was on duty but does not wear a body camera, as only patrol officers are equipped with that device. The suspect has not been identified, and it is not yet known if the suspect fired any shots.
