Halloween timing leaves box office flat as A24 doc snatches top spot
Studios avoided new releases when the holiday fell on Saturday, leaving two existing titles to fight for the lead in a quiet market.

Two films fought for the top spot this weekend as studios stayed home to avoid the Halloween party. A24’s documentary You Can See Everything edged out the horror film Clayface for the first place finish in a domestic market that saw little new competition.
You Can See Everything, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, earned $10.6 million in its third weekend. That total brings the Elizabeth Holmes biography to a North American cumulative sum of $63.8 million. The film is playing in 3,243 theaters and faces a 43 percent drop from its previous weekend. It is now looking at its first number one ranking.
Clayface, the body horror feature from filmmaker James Watkins, sits just behind in second place. The Warner Bros. release, which stars Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie, grossed approximately $10.4 million in its second frame. Its two-week domestic total now stands at $44.1 million. The film carries a $44 million production budget and represents the third theatrical title from DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran. It is projected to see a 56 percent decline.
The overall weekend box office is tracking for one of the lowest totals of the year. Industry figures suggest the final number will land just above the $49 million collected during the same weekend in 2025. Last year, Halloween fell on a Friday, and Black Phone 2 led the market with $8.3 million in its third week.
Paul Dergarabedian of Rentrak noted that historical challenges have caused studios to shy away from launching major films during the holiday. He stated that the lack of a splashy opener limits the chance for a big closing boost in October, but the horror genre remains strong overall.
Laika’s stop-motion animation Wildwood took third place with $7.5 million in its second weekend. The film, which stars Carey Mulligan and Jacob Tremblay, has a domestic total of $25.8 million. It faces a 38 percent drop but holds a 99 percent critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes against a reported $100 million budget.
Black Bear’s romantic fantasy Wicker finished fourth with $4.1 million, bringing its total to $13.2 million. Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgard star in the film, which holds a 94 Rotten Tomatoes score. Street Fighter closed out the top five with $3.2 million, raising its domestic total to $53 million. Sony’s Resident Evil likely landed in seventh place with a projected $2.5 million, pushing its global total past $400 million.
