Four wooden silhouettes depicting wartime servicemembers were unveiled outside the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham on Tuesday. The installation serves as part of the town's upcoming Remembrance commemorations.

The figures represent a World War One Tommy, a World War Two paratrooper, a Land Girl, and a member of the Women's Royal Naval Service. Grantham Arts organized workshops where college students researched local military history and painted the distinct wooden models.

The Wren silhouette bears the name of Joan Briggs, a Grantham woman who served in the Navy during World War Two. Accompanying the figures is a cascading display of hundreds of handmade poppies stitched onto military camouflage netting. This specific poppy installation first appeared in 2023.

A military march is scheduled for 8 November in the town. The event will follow a Remembrance Sunday service at St Wulfram's Church.

Across the county, the poppy appeal launched with thousands of poppies released from beneath the wings of Avro Lancaster Just Jane at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. A service of remembrance is also planned for 8 November at the International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln.
