The weekend box office was won by a house full of ghosts.
Lionsgate U.K. reported that its horror-comedy, "Ghosts: The Possession of Button House," took in 2.4 million pounds, or 3.2 million dollars, over the three-day period. This figure placed the film at the top of the chart for the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The release beat out two major studio titles in its first run of theaters. Warner Bros. launched its DC horror thriller, "Clayface," in second place with a haul of 2.6 million dollars. In third position, Amazon MGM Studios offered the comedy "Ali G: Who Iz I?", which generated 1.7 million dollars during its debut session.
The remaining spots in the top five went to established franchises and new animated entries. Black Bear's "Wildwood," directed by Travis Knight, secured fourth place with 1.36 million dollars. Paramount's "Street Fighter" moved down to fifth in its second week, adding 1.35 million dollars to its total. That addition brought the film's cumulative earnings to 5.6 million dollars.
Several other titles found their footing in the middle of the chart. Universal's animated feature "Forgotten Island" collected 1.2 million dollars in its second weekend, bringing its total to 3.7 million dollars. Sony's psychological thriller "Verity" placed seventh in its fourth frame, adding 857,067 dollars to reach a running total of 14.4 million dollars.
Universal's "Other Mommy" took eighth place in its third session with 576,822 dollars, bringing its gross to 6.2 million dollars. Mubi's "Fatherland" debuted at number nine, generating 264,083 dollars from 86 locations. The film posted a screen average of 3,144 dollars, which was the fourth highest average per site among new releases. Including preview screenings, the drama's total opening reached 415,017 dollars. This figure surpassed "Cold War" to become director Paweł Pawlikowski's biggest launch in the territory.
Studiocanal's animated holdover "Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom" rounded out the top ten in its sixth frame. The film collected 408,089 dollars, lifting its cumulative total to 6.1 million dollars.
Mubi also released the documentary "Making Marie Antoinette" across six sites. The film took 1,737 dollars over the weekend for a 24,355 dollar cume. This limited platform bow begins a staggered rollout that will expand to additional cinemas. The expansion will occur ahead of Park Circus' re-release of Sofia Coppola's 2006 feature "Marie Antoinette" on November 13.
